Overview

The 2023 International Conference on Sustainability, Environment, and Social Transition in Economics and Finance (SESTEF 2023) jointly organized by Southampton Business School (University of Southampton, UK), Audencia Business School, University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and Paris School of Business with the support of Gaia (Audencia Business School), Center of Research for Energy and Climate Change – CRECC (Paris School of Business), Centre d’Economie de la Sorbonne, the UMI SOURCE (Joint International Research Unit Sustainability and resilience, University of Paris-Saclay), and the Universitas Sebelas Maret (Indonesia) will take place on December 14, 15, and 16, 2023 in Southampton, UK. The event aims to provide academics, policymakers, and practitioners with a valuable forum for discussion and critical analysis of the major issues and challenges that interrelate energy, environment, sustainability, social transition, economics and finance.

Keynote Speakers

Douglas

Douglas Cumming, J.D., Ph.D., CFA, is the DeSantis Distinguished Professor of Finance and Entrepreneurship at the College of Business, Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. Douglas has published over 195 articles in leading refereed academic journals in finance, management, and law and economics, such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, and Journal of International Business Studies. His work has been cited over 23,000 times according to Google Scholar. He is the Managing Editor-in-Chief of the Review of Corporate Finance (2021-current) and British Journal of Management (2020-current). Douglas has published 21 academic books, including Crowdfunding: Fundamental Cases, Facts, and Insights (Elsevier Academic Press, 2019). Douglas’ work has been reviewed in numerous media outlets, including The Economist, The New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Wall Street Journal, and The New Yorker.

Tol

Richard S.J. Tol is a Professor at the Department of Economics, University of Sussex and the Professor of the Economics of Climate Change, Institute for Environmental Studies and Department of Spatial Economics, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He is a member of the Academia Europaea. Previously, he was a Research Professor at the Economic and Social Research Institute, Dublin, the Michael Otto Professor of Sustainability and Global Change at Hamburg University and an Adjunct Professor, Department of Engineering and Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA. He has had visiting appointments at the Canadian Centre for Climate Research, University of Victoria, British Colombia, at the Centre for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment, University College London, and at the Princeton Environmental Institute and the Department of Economics, Princeton University. Richard received an M.Sc. in econometrics (1992) and a Ph.D. in economics (1997) from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He is ranked among the top 150 economists in the world, and has over 200 publications in learned journals (with 100+ co-authors), one book, three edited volumes, and many minor publications.

Publication Opportunities

The conference offers publications opportunities for high quality submitted papers in special issues of Energy Economics, Finance Research Letters, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, and Sustainable Production and Consumption. Moreover, in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief of European Financial Management, authors of selected papers will be invited to submit their manuscripts to a regular issue of EFM with fast track review.
